forcing ethernet

My laptop was fine a couple hours ago, i "update and shut down"Turn it back on now to find out that the wifi button has completely disappeared and it's showing the globe with the the "" like no internet symbol. So i click it and it takes me to ethernet and wifi isn't even an option. MyWifi is fine... my phone, tv, ipad everything connected. But my laptop is acting like it's not an option. I disable Ethernet and troubleshoot it just says to plug in my ethernet this laptop hasn't even used ethernet yet, so not sure why this is happening.
