1. You're correct that the converter should be listed in Add/Remove
Programs (but not Start > All Programs). Microsoft (as always) does not
make things simple: the converter is not listed under "Microsoft" or
"Word" or "Converter" or even "Office." Look for "Compatibility Pack for
the 2007 Office System."
2. If you see the Compatibility Pack in Add/Remove Programs, you can try
uninstalling it, redownloading it, and reinstalling it. Get it here:

3. Note that if you're using Word 2000, you should *first* install
service pack 3 (for Word 2000, not XP service pack 3, although you
should have installed the latter plus all high/priority updates for XP
anyway).
4. If you don't see the Compatibility Pack in Add/Remove Programs, or
if you have further difficulties, you should post in the general Word
