File explorer: Keyboard letters to "jump" through folders and files ignores all but the first letter now, no matter how fast I type

TO REPRODUCE ISSUE: open File Explorer, type a two-letter combo to EXPECTED BEHAVIOUR: jump down the list to items beginning with those two letters..ACTUAL BEHAVIOUR jumps down the list FIRST to the first item starting with [first letter typed]" THEN to item starting with [second letter typed].HISTORY: after at least 15 years of Expected Behaviour, the new behavkour showed up a couple of months ago on all the dozens of PCs I use, Win10 and Win11.
