vista [business] unable to connect to my isp, i use a prepaid isp and 56k
dialup modem. vista automatically remembers the user name, password and phone
number, all i have to do is click on the dial option. [i hotswapped the hard
drive from my old xp system and the modem works ok].

in vista i can hear the dial tones thru speaker moden, then zilch. receive
message'failed to connect to dial-up connection'. it offers the usual 3
options 1) retry 2) dianose problem 3) try another connection. repeatedly
tried options 1 & 3 with no success. when diagnosed the problem vista said
modem working fine?

I went into IE via tools/internet options/connections/dial-up settings and
discovered that the password is diferrent to the one for my isp? changed it
back to the isp password, however when reopened IE the password had reverted
back to the mystery password.

stranger still, when i checked IE in XP, the same thing was displayed,
however i can connect to the isp in XP.

it has to be a software problem, which is strange, it worked okay one day
and then crapped out the next day. no strange ms downloads lately, maybe
bitdefender 2008 is clashing with IE although i disabled the firewall.

anybody have any ideas or opions, and yes i can only use a dial-up modem.

thanx diabolical

I had a problem dialing with my modem, and discovered problems with Vista's
dialing rules. Check to make sure Vista isn't adding any digits to the
dialed string, like the country code, etc. I cleared out all such boxes and
my modem started behaving.

You can hear the dial tone, but can you hear the ring, or any of the
negotiating tones?

Having exactly the same kind of problem at the moment in regards to IE
having a different password in Internet Options. It is most frustrating as I
can't find any info on how to rectify this.

=o[

Have been fiddling around for a few hours, finally got it to connect.

First off I deleted the connection in IE

Then I went to the Rasphone.pbk file
C:\Users\Username\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Network\Connections\Pbk
Made sure the Rasphone.pbk is not read only in properties [it was originally]

Opened up the connections wizard from Netwrok and Sharing center and created
a new dial up connection - I didn't select save password though, after it
dialed it it connected, test was successful.

Opened up Internet Options [IE] and in the connections tab there is no
information in the dial up section [no account name or password]...so far so
good.

Has to be a better way of fixing this though =o\ Can't connect all the time
like this, not game at the moment to disconnect to test yet - only just got
back online =o|
