External HDD error "Cannot open volume for direct access", "This disk check could not be performed because windows cannot access the disk"

i am using Windows 11 on an HP X360.My Internal HDD stopped working recently. I replaced it with a new one and trying to recover data from the old one by using a SATA to USB.1. When i try to access it from My Computer, it gives error: "E:\ is not accessible.Incorrect Function" (Image 1)2. When i invoke chkdsk command, error is:"C:\Windows\System32>chkdsk /f E: Cannot open volume for direct access." (Image 4)3. When i go to my computer>Right Click on USB(external HDD)>Properties,a. it shows 0 byte free, 0 byte used. (Image 2)b. when i try to do error checking from tools menu, it says "
