Every time I try to open Word, a tab comes up and forces it to close. How can I resolve this and access Word?

"Microsoft Office can't find your license for this application. A repair attempt was unsuccessful or was cancelled. Microsoft Office will now exit." is the message given and it only allows me to press Ok or Help. These either close it down (Ok) or send me to this questions page (Help). I don't know what license it's referring to and so don't know how to solve the problem. No changes had been made to my system, it just started denying me access randomly.
