Error Report with Questions

Earlier today I was working in FrontPage web on a CD and FP has always asked

me if I want to make FrontPage the default browser...and I said yes.

This evening I was taking a check of my other three browsers, only one at a

time, Chrome, Firefox and Explorer, but *none of them asked me* if I wanted

to change to (browser1) (browser2) (browser3) default.

Chrome first. Then Firefox, and it opened with an update right then.

The third one was Internet Explorer 7. While I was using it the computer

restarted and I got the Microsoft Windows "The system has recovered from a

serious error."

(While the computer was restarting, I had forgotten to take out the CD; I

could hear it start up while the computer was loading, so I ejected it and

closed the CD tray.)

...................................

I sent the Error Report

And got the response: Blue Screen Error caused by a device or driver (with

instructions).

ERROR SIGNATURE

BCCode : 1000008e BCP1 : C0000005 BCP2 : BF8129EA BCP3 :

B03C3448

BCP4 : 00000000 OSVer : 5_1_2600 SP : 2_0 Product : 256_1

The following files will be included in this error report.

C:\DOCUME~1\darlene\LOCALS~1\Temp\WER966f.dir00\Mini021010-01.dmp

C:\DOCUME~1\darlene\LOCALS~1\Temp\WER966f.dir00\sysdata.xml

...................

Before I do anything,

(1) is it at all possible that removing the CD from the CD tray while the

computer was loading really have been the problem?

(2) Could it have been that the browsers got mixed up?

(3) With recent Windows Updates, did Windows decide that asking the

question about the default browser was not necessary?

(4) Could the Firefox update cause the problem?

There are so many weird things that can happen in Windows, I thought someone

else might have heard of one of these problems.

Windows XP Pro "Second Edition"? I've never heard of that one.

Your post is confusing; I don't know what your question or problem is,

exactly. Here is information about the error message you saw:

STOP 0x8E: KERNEL_MODE_EXCEPTION_NOT_HANDLED

http://www.aumha.org/a/stop.php#0x8e

Excerpt: "These are nearly always hardware compatibility issues (which

/sometimes/ means a driver issue or a need for a BIOS upgrade)."

The first edition was described as "version 2002"

The second edition was described as "includes Service Pack 2 updates."

This was so for both Home Edition and Professional.

Called "second edition" by whom? Not Microsoft.

P.S. My copies of XP (Home and Professional) are at SP3 - as your copy

should be. They are nowhere referred to as second (or third) edition.

Under the Contents column, they have used Microsoft's graphics and text to

describe the original advertising, that, of course Microsoft wouldn't be

showing these days. But the first version of Windows XP was released October

2001. It was quite a while before I bought my copy and it was stamped

Version 2002, copyrighted 2004, Includes Service Pack 2. I purchased it in

2004 and was advertised as including Service Pack 2 and Advanced Security

Technologies.

Sorry you couldn't answer my questions.
