I am trying to run Windows Updates on my Server 2003 domain controller. It
has worked successfully in the past (four weeks ago), but this morning, I
received the following message:

This website wants to install the following add-on: 'Windows Update' from
'Microsoft Windows Component Publisher'

I try to install the add-on, but I am placed in a loop where I am
continually asked to install the add-on.

I tried removing the muweb.dll file, disabling and then re-enabling the
add-on, turning off popup blocker, and turning off antivirus, but I am still
not able to download the updates.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks.

Kate,

Please see: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/932494

First, scroll down to ' Download information'
Download the 'WSUS version 3.0 client program' for whichever type of
WS2003 [x86, x64,Itanium] that you're running and save that.
Then download KB927891 from http://support.microsoft.com/kb/927891/
for either WS2003 x86, x64, or Itanium and save that, too.

First try installing both with the Automatic Updates service stopped
* Run net stop wuauserv **prior** to installing the updates *

Install 'WSUS version 3.0 client program' [Windows Update Agent]
Then install KB927891 and restart the server

If the updates fail to install then the AV is the culprit OR,
if this appears in the Application event log:

Event Type: Error
Event Source: Application Error
Event Category: (100)
Event ID: 1000
