DPC_WATCHDOG_VIOLATION BSOD, freezing, random other failures

Previous I would experience problems where my computer would not sleep or other situations where when my monitors where off, but the computer was on I was unable to turn the monitors back on without power cycling the computer. On occasion, this was to the extent that I could not use the power button and had to toggle the power switch on the PSU. In an attempt to fix this I updated the bios. Once I did this the computer would frequently either crash with a DPC_WATCHDOG_VIOLATION BSOD, or freeze entirely with no blue screen.
