downloading attachment without being forced to save it somewhere

I used to be able to click on an attachment, and it automatically downloaded, probably to a download file. Something apparently changed since then, because now I cannot clickon an attachment without it demanding me to save the document somewhere. I usually am not interested in doing this, and I wish for it to go back to simply bringing up the document and not forcing me to save it to some location...
