Docked laptop loses external monitor orientation

I am having some issues with some of our HP 840 G5's. The problem is that when the laptop is docked to a 2013 Ultraslim dock, and is left unattended for a period of time, locked, or is removed and returned to the dock the two external monitors attached by DisplayPort cables lose their orientation. I have this problem with 4 different people all setup the same way. I should mention that these 4 keep their laptop open to use it as a 3rd screen. All have updated graphics drivers, and BIOS. I've taken several steps to find a permanent fix, with zero luck. Sometimes it's okay for few days, but ultimately the problem returns.

Here's some of the troubleshooting steps I've taken:

Deleted greyed out monitors from device manager hidden items
Deleted all entries from HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\GraphicsDrivers\Configuration
Made sure monitors were a matched set, not two different make/models. We use Samsung S22E450D
Set power settings to never turn off displays, not ideal but worth a shot.
Set source detection on monitors from auto to manual
Using straight-thru DisplayPort cables, there are no adapters in play.

Googling will show that this is not a new problem. I've found articles going back to 2014 reporting the same issue. Has anyone out there encountered this, and beat it? What did you do? Any input at all will be appreciated.

Thank you
