I agree with you and understand your problem completely.
This is a new issue with Vista/ Windows 7 IE7 or 8.
Do you have a solution yet where you can disable my computer showing up in Internet Explorer?

I agree with the original poster ("needlove") that there needs to be a way to disable the tracking (or at least the displaying) of "My Computer" history in IE7. But my reason isn't for security as much as ease of use, so I don't really care if it is tracked as much as whether it is displayed along with the website history.
Frequently I want to open the history and locate a previous webpage, and the way my memory works, using the "By order visited today" sort works best. But when I have been working all day on my computer the history might include not only scores or even hundreds of websites, but scores or hundreds of files accessed on My Computer (MP3s, JPGs, GIFs, TXTs, DOCs, XLSs, etc., etc., etc.).
It is even worse when I need to find something in the history from "Last Week" or earlier, where there might be thousands of webpages from hundreds of websites and thousands of My Computer files lumped together in one list. I know I can use a "By Site" view to reduce the number of items displayed and isolate the My Computer files, but that defeats the purpose of being able to view website URLs in the order visited to find related webpages from different sites (especially websites/pages that I originally found by following links form other websites/pages).
Just like "needlove" I use IE7 as a WEB browser, NOT a COMPUTER browser, and I usually don't need or want to see the My Computer history in the IE history list at all. (On the other hand, I wouldn't mind having a FOLDER (not FILE) history in Explorer that doesn't vanish like the Forward/Back drop down history does as soon as I take a different path... but that's another much less important issue.)
Does anyone know of a way to disable the inclusion of My Computer history in the IE history list???

Yeah, There is no reason for an internet browser to record your computer
browsing history. I don't use IE to browse my computer. There needs to be an
option for this because a browser referrer will possibly make that
information available to the next website visited.
Just a refreasher...

It may help to know that the definition of a referrer is the URL of the
web page a request is coming from. When you click on a link to go to
another page, or when the web page itself calls for an image to be
displayed, the browser sends the URL of the current web page along with
the request.
On a search site, in addition to the URL, the text you are searching for
is often sent to an advertising agency that sends back a banner ad or
just collects demographics.

that I never, ever, ever want to see my computer browsing history in my IE
browsing history.
I hope your not confused. Possibly a registry setting?
This is not my first time attempting to deal with this problem. Trying to
Google for something relevent to this problem brings up a gaggle of IE
history erasers, cleaners, etc... all of which is pure garbage. See, I want
to REMOVE "MY COMPUTER" from IE7 history FOREVER.
The last I heard on this was that IE7 is integrated in, or, such an integral
part of XP that you cannot remove your computer browsing history from IE
history.
But, I hate to believe that because I like IE7 except for that one flaw.
Explorer.exe is the program that is used to navigate "MY COMPUTER" not
Internet explorer.exe. See the difference?
I know, its confusing, but someday you'll see...maybe

ALL my top websites I visit are no longer visible due to the shared drive

Not at all. I have just this SECOND looked at IE6 on my Wife's laptop and in
History, is an item for My Computer that shows files opened from the local
machine. Just like mine used to do.
Are you sure there is not some sort of customization on your machines?

Did anybody of you come up with a solution by now? For me it would be sufficient (for privacy reasons) to turn off the complete history forever (browsing and local folders). But turning off history in IE (by setting the time period to "0") still ignores the local folders history. The local folders option on the control panel doesn't offer any option... there must be a way of turning the complete history off (not just delete it once).
