Create a Desktop Shortcut

Are you able to give me simple instructions for how to create/recreate desktop icons that have just disappeared? I've tried looking for guidance on the web, but the expected options don't appear. All I want do do is just click on something that says 'Create a Shortcut'. Specifically, I'm trying to do this for HP Smart - the app is installed on my Windows 10 laptop.This is what I found on the web, but it just doesn't make sense to me.How to create a shortcut for HP Smart App?Pin to Start: Right-click HP Smart, and then select Pin to Start from the drop-down.
