computers suddenly require CTRL ALT DEL to open the logon dialogue

I have 2 computers in the house and both suddenly require CTRL ALT DEL to open the logon/password dialogue when locked. Why ? and how to stop? I assume a windows update has caused this and neither has had any other software loaded and neither has had any settings changed.
