I have Flash Player v.9.0.16.0 in the Macromed/Flash folder and the

Shockwave Flash Object v.9.0.16.0 ActiveX control in the Manage Add-Ons. No

matter how many times I run the Adobe Unistall software it is not removed.

Because of this I cannot install the latest version of FlashPlayer (v.

10.0.42.34). How do I accomplish this?

I am running Windows Pro XP, SP3, IE8 and have Norton Internet Security,

2009 installed. I just installed the latest Java. I have worked extensively

with an Adobe "helper" and we have eliminated all but IE8 as the possible

problem. Can anyone help who has solved this problem previously?

Download the following two files and save them to your Desktop

http://download.macromedia.com/pub/flashplayer/current/uninstall_flash_player.exe

http://www.macromedia.com/go/full_flashplayer_win_ie

1. Disconnect from the Internet and temporarily disable any Real-Time

Secruity Application(s) running in the background on your machine.

2. Run the Uninstaller file from the Desktop to completely remove the Flash

Player from your System.

3. Run the Installer file from the Desktop to reinstall the latest version

of the Flash Player.

If the above procedure doesn't resolve your issue, then it's possible that

you have a Registry Permissions problem that is preventing the Flash Player

from Uninstalling||installing properly. Follow the directions at the

following Adobe site for resetting your Registry Permissions:

http://kb2.adobe.com/cps/494/cpsid_49419.html

After completing steps 1 thru 8 for fixing your registry permissions, the go

back to and follow the above steps for uninstalling and reinstalling the

Flash Player.

Finally, if no joy with the above recommendations then Adobe offers free

email support(via a Web Case) for Flash Player installation problems, you

might turn there next:

1. Go to the Adobe Support Portal:

http://www.adobe.com/go/supportportal/

2. When you get to the Support Portal page, click on the Button that says:

"Create an Account"

3. Once you've created an account with Adobe and you're logged in to that

Account, at the bottom of the page use the selector to select:

"Installation Help"

4. In the 'Choose product' category put a tick in the radial next to:

"Additional products"

5. From the selection menu select:

"Adobe Flash Player"

6. Now click the button that says "Continue"

You will taken to a page entitled:

"Create a support case"

7. Here you can type your support request and send it to Adobe

Good luck,

Is your NIS 2009 subscription current?

Has a(another) Norton or McAfee application ever been installed on the

computer (e.g., a free-trial version that came preinstalled when you bought

it; NIS 2007)?

Thanks for responding. As I mentioned to Mr. Anadell, I did not realize I

had replys. Please also refer to the message I just posted to him for

further information.

Hi,

For some reason my message to you did not post. I wrote to thank you for

responding to my question and to say that I was unaware of it until last week

since I received no email message.

I had alsready tried all the un-install/install steps using the Adobe

downloads previously several times. I may not have cummunicated clearly

enough that the only problem I have is that the 2 items mentioned in my

origianl question will not disappear from the Flash folder or the maage

add-ons.

Friends in other sates who are advanced computer uses advise me against

"messing " with the registry. They say one should be quite accomplished and

comfortable in dong so. That is not me since I have no technical

inclinaitons.

In the past year I have contaced Adobe, Norton, Microsoft and Dell about

this and I just get shuffled around. I have worked recently with a gentleman

from Adobe who has been quite helpful - had me do everything we could to

remove the 2 items after we got FP working again. He suggested I contact

Mircosoft one last time in case they had any suggestions about IE8 that could

be preventing removal.

Since you suggest I go back to Adobe I am resolved that, as in life, some

things just can't be fixed. I do appreciate your interest and response,

however.

Try the following:

1. Download the Norton Removal Tool, saving it to your desktop:

ftp://ftp.symantec.com/public/english_us_canada/removal_tools/Norton_Removal_Tool.exe

2. Close any open applications (i.e., anything with an icon on the taskbar).

3. After making certain you have a copy of your Product Key handy, uninstall

Norton Internet Security, LiveUpdate & any Norton Add-ons via Add/Remove

Programs and reboot.

4. IMPORTANT! => Enable the Windows Firewall immediately after rebooting.

NB: You're "working without a net" now: Don't to ANYTHING else online (e.g.,

browsing; reading email; chatting) until you've completed Step #7 below!

5. Double-click on the file you saved in #1 above to run the utility. Don't

TOUCH your keyboard until the run completes, then reboot.

6. Do a clean install of NIS 2010 using your Product ID & reboot:

http://www.symantec.com/norton/support/kb/web_view.jsp?wv_type=public_web&docurl=20080514162318EN

TIP: Do not enable or install any Norton Add-ons (e.g., Norton

Anti-Phishing) just yet.

7. Manually and repeatedly run LiveUpdate until you get a "no more updates"

prompt.

8. Test.
