Can't sign in

Tried to use an old laptop that I had forgotten wasn't signed into my new Microsoft acct (still signed into old acct which has beed deleted). I preformed a windows update and upon restart, a sign in screen appears requiring sign in. The old account email is listed, so I tried the associated password. Since the old acct is deleted I'm now in a sign in loop. I enter the required info and it goes back to a sign in. I tried entering the new acct info, but doesn't take it. I am so frustrated that I would like to reformat the drive, but I have to be signed in to do that. Any ideas? TIA
