Can't connect third screens after a recent update in both windows 10 and windows 11

I have two computers, one has win11 and the other, that usually my wife uses, has windows 10.Everything was fine, but since few weeks back after a windows update I am unable to have three screens connected. I have two regular screens and a pen tablet. I usually have the pen tablet disconnected, but from time to time I need to connect it. Before I would simply connect it and it would come up as a third screen.
