Can't change metadata in Window 10

I'm trying to add a rating to an MKV video file using the five stars.However I can't access them (or any other metadata) using Windows Explorer.I have checked that I own the files and that they are not read only.When I go to the file's Properties the dialog has General/Details/Previous Versions as tabs and when I go into Details the metadata is listed. However when I right click on a field it highlights but I can't alter it.Please help
