So I recently upgraded to Windows 10 Pro from Home purely so I could use the Remote Desktop feature. However I've been going for a couple hours now and still can't get access externally (using the IP).

I'm using the app on an iPhone 11, when i simply enter the pc name or local IP, it connects straight away and asks for name/password.

I wanted to set it up with port forwarding so I could access it remotely. I have a netgear router so am using their free DDNS service "xxx.mynetgear.com:3389"

Originally when I tried connecting via the DDNS address or the public IP, I would get the same error (0x204). After a bit of googling I tried a few things:

 • Making sure the remote desktop protocol was enabled, and unchecking "Allow connections only from computers running Remote Desktop with Network Level Authentication"
 • Making sure 'Remote Desktop' and 'Remote Desktop (WebSocket)' were allowed in Windows Firewall
 • Restarting the PC after the changes

After doing these two things I tried again, this time when entering the DDNS address, I got the error code (0x104), when using the public IP I still got (0x204). When just entering the PC Name it still worked, as well as when I entered the local IP.

Next I went through these steps:

 • Going to the Advanced Firewall Inbound Rules to make sure that the relevant Remote Desktop options really were allowed.
 • Checking that there were no custom DNS settings set up.

After these steps I'm still getting the same errors and don't know what else to try.

I do not have any third-party firewall/security software.
