Can't access a computer as microsoft account has expired

I have an old computer I need to access and use but the password for windows 10/microsoft account doesn't work. I follow through to recovery but get "try entering your microsoft account again. We don't recognise this one." I gather it is because I didn't use that email for a year plus the microsoft account is gone but can I recover my data somehow? And get the computer working again? The email for the account is a defunct business domain if that matters.
