can you upgrade windows 8.1 to windows 10 without losing the winows 8.1 produckt key?

so i want to upgrade my laptop but im worried that my data maybe lost or the windows 10 is not activated cause i pay for the windows 8.1 product key and I dont know if the install will use the winows 8.1 key to activate windows 10 help mee!
