Can you keep your MS licence when restoring from system image if you are restoring over a different OS?

Hello, I was wondering if it would be possible to keep your microsoft license when you restore from a system image (usb backup) if you are restoring it over a different os that was downloaded in the meantime. If so what is required to do this?I have a laptop(5490 latitude) that has win10 on it that I plan to make run linux, however if for whatever reason I might need to switch back sometime in the future (ex- selling it, needing it for something that cannot be done on linux, etc) I would like to be able to do so and not have to pay for a new license considering I already paid for this one when
