Can someone please explain why Word documents do not go to printer

[Windows Server]

I have 64 bit Office 2013. Word documents saved on computer are not sent to printer but Excel documents or external documents go to printer. Have done full scan, test page prints ok, updated Windows and printer is shown as ready and is default printer. Online material as possible solutions not on point. Can someone please help.
