Can someone help me with the Lag on my computer while playing games?

For the past couple of months, a few of my games will lag so badly randomly that they are unplayable. Like 1 FPS and the only way to fix it is to restart my entire computer. It has happened at least 20 times which is only a few fewer times than I have played games. Thank you for your help.
