Can anyone please help me with a login issue via a Laptop ??

I can not log in to my laptop (which runs on Windows 10 or before), as the password is managed by the online Microsoft account and the laptop won't register updates, despite a good internet connection. I honestly can't believe in this day and age its such a struggle to actually log in to one's laptop. If anyone out there can help, I would be very grateful. I have tried the standard tuff; rebooting, updating password via another PC etc. Nothing works. So I now have a personal laptop I simply can not gain access to. The system I'm using is a HP Pavillion, where the homescreen only has an on/off
