Boot drive/path being corrupted after booting from USB

I am working on a project involving booting from a USB boot drive. After successfully booting to the USB and using the OS installed, I shutdown the laptop. After full shutdown of the laptop and removal of the boot-able USB, I tried booting without the USB back to the original C: boot drive. I encountered error 0xc00000e and the laptop boot loops, unable to boot. This has happened on 2 different laptops and not on a desktop yet. For the laptops 1 was newer and the automatic recovery was able to fix the problem and booted again. The older laptop could not fix the boot drive. I tried fixing it wi
