Black screen when connecting extern monitor to laptop via Usb-c/Hdmi cable

Hello, when I connect my laptop to an external monitor using a USB-C/HDMI cable and open an entertainment app (Netflix or Spotify), the external monitor is no longer recognized, and my laptop screen turns black. When I unplug the cable, the screen flickers and then stabilizes. Keeping the applications minimized solves the issue. Has anyone else experienced the same problem?
