backup & restore Windows 7 hangs while creating full system image and can't get canceled

I have used backup & restore Windows 7 for quite a while without problems. I am running on a Surface Pro 9 with Windows 11. I start a create a system image and it ran for quiet a while, (ususally a couple of hours) but it just hangs. I get out of the program and back in and try to start the system image and it says it is still running and must wait to continue. There is no way to cancel. I have tried the "Reset this PC" in the System - Recovery in Settings but that has not worked either. I have tried rebooting, fix problems using Windows Update...... Nothing seems to work to get the
