Hello..

Ever since I put a fresh install of Windows XP Professional on my computer,

32 bit btw, I have not been able to get sound to come out of my speakers..

Yes, I did install the drivers from my manufacturer's website, and even

installed a program called Driver checker to install all the missing drivers

I needed.. But still, no sound. Headphones don't even work so I know it's not

the speakers fault, it's obviously some kind of driver messing it up or

something.. Anyone have any ideas? I can supply screenshots of anything, if

needed.

If you installed an app like driver checker, then it would have scourced

updates from unknown scources.

Go back to the makers sites and install drivers from there; if a large oem

eg Dell / Hp or Laptop from that maker, if generic PC from the hardware

makers, eg motherboard. Then test your devices

Good.

Do regular Windows sounds work?

Check in Start, Settings, Control Panel, Sounds and Audio Devices,

Sounds tab. Anything work there?

Open Device Manager, resize the window to make sure you can see

everything and get a screen shot of that:

%SystemRoot%\system32\eventvwr.msc

Then do this:

Click Start, Run and in the box enter:

msinfo32

Click OK, and when the System Summary info appears, click Edit, Select

All, Copy and then paste the information back here.

There will be some personal information (like System Name and User

Name), and whatever appears to

be private information to you, just delete it from the pasted

information.

For audio information, expand the Components, click Sound Device,

click Edit, Select All, Copy and then paste the information back

here.

This will minimize back and forth Q&A and eliminate guesswork.

That is what I originally did.. I went to the Dell website and put my

service tag in but it did not work. The driver I downloaded from Dell's site

didn't do a thing.

What problem were you having that you thought "a fresh install" might

resolve?

Did you do a Repair Install or did you format the HDD & do a clean install?

Is it a Notebook PC?

Did you use the disks that came with the computer or the hidden Recovery

partition to do this "fresh install?"

I was having troubles with Windows 7, so I completely formatted the HD and

put XP on there..

It is not a notbeook computer. And I used the disks that came with Windows.

Try here.. there are two drivers shown for that model:

http://support.dell.com/support/dow...bIndex=&scanSupported=False&scanConsent=False

Or, if I misinterpreted what system you have, click the "Change Your

Product" link, click "Choose a model" instead of "Enter a tag", and

continue that way to your system specs.

Had you upgraded the WinXP computer to Win7 [if you can call a "custom

(advanced) install" an upgrade]?

Window does come on a disk, yes. Did the Windows XP disk come with that

specific computer?

Very helpful information. Nothing showed up in the Components, Sound

Device section of msinfo32?

The Dell manual says that system has a Realtek audio device but it is

not showing up in Device Manager. It will not work until it shows up

in Device Manager and the proper driver is loaded.

In Device Manager, highlight the computer, click Action, Scan for

hardware changes and see if it can be found, then download the Realtek

drivers and install them from the link Elmo provided.

No, I purchased this disk.

Use the disk that came with the *mother board*. That or go to the RealTek

site, download and install the friver for the on board sound.
