Thanks to all looking at this question.
I installed an XLR mic into the USB port using an appropriate XLR to USB cord, but when I did it apparently installed a driver which altered my audio configuration. When I look into Playback, Recording audio panels (and even after going into properties to enable my internal mic) it says the mic (Realtek High Definition Audio) is not plugged in. (I have Realtek because I went to HP site and downloaded the drivers hoping that would correct the problem but that was unsuccessful.) I was considering a system restore but I've read in many places that may not reset the audio and I don't want to open a bigger can of worms. I have so many issues now with feedback loops etc and I think I've tried EVERY conceivable combination (enable/diasable/listen) throughout Playback and Recording panels. I can't use the internal mic for communicating with skype, zoom, etc and was hoping someone could tell me how to "undo" what occurred when connecting the XLR mic. Or can I somehow find the initial audio configurations and reset them? Thank you all so much.
