Assignment Tab always showing a 1 badge notification, how do I fix this?

I have already proceeded with basic troubleshooting such as restarting my laptop and updating it, and doing a clean uninstall and reinstall of MS Teams. It continues to show 1 on the assignment icon despite having no pending or past due assignments. How do I fix this? I also am unable to find the Teams folder via %appdata%. I am also using the new Teams app as we need to use this since it is being used for our Insititution.
