eSet NOD32 and Avira AntiVir work pretty well with minimal impact - but the
truth is you have not given enough information about the laptop...
What is the CPU (manufacturer, speed and number of cores), how much memory
(RAM) do you have installed, how much free hard disk space do you have, what
are your virtual memory settings, is it a shared memory video device or does
the video device have dedicated memory, what specific operating system are
you running (edition and version) and what other maintenance do you perform
on the machine?

eSet NOD32 and Avira AntiVir work pretty well with minimal impact - but the
truth is you have not given enough information about the laptop...
What is the CPU (manufacturer, speed and number of cores), how much memory
(RAM) do you have installed, how much free hard disk space do you have, what
are your virtual memory settings, is it a shared memory video device or does

EVERY anti-virus program will slow down the computer. It has to, in
order to do its work.
I like the free Avast Antivirus. It seems to use less resources and
impact the system's operation less than most others I've tried.

Most of the "slowing-down" comes from the software consistantly accessing
the web for updates,mcafee does this every 5 seconds...Turn off the auto
updater,& youre pc will run faster.Also,turn the service(s) to "manual-start"
from auto start,then enable the service as you need it..

Your question isn't real, of course, you're just trolling?
You don't get any more virus definitions updates and you will become
infected. The course of action would be to renew the subscription or get
another antivirus program.

I finished an antivirus analysis last month.
McAfee and AVG are some of the worst in terms of performance and reliability. McAfee is
the only antivirus I've ever encountered that was disabled by malware, on three separate
laptops I was asked to look at.
PC World recently did a comparison and concluded that Avira is hands-down the FASTEST
RELIABLE antivirus out there, with the absolutely least impact on your computer:

However, PC World did not award the top slot to Avira. Not surprisingly, PC World
awarded the top to antivirus manufacturers that advertise on PC World - and tweaked the
test rules to favor them.
