after installing KB5050009, xbox controller won't connect

I installed KB5050009, yesterday and suddenly, my xbox controller won't connect anymore. I have tried 2 controllers, 2 cables, two different ports. There is no driver in the device manager to update. it is not recognized in the Game Controllers control panel. I plug it in and the controller vibrates, indicating that it has power. before, the xbox button lit up as soon as I plugged it in. Now, it doesn't, and even when I press and hold, it just flashes for a few minutes then shuts down again.
