My laptop is crashing and I get a black screen but it is not off. In fact,

when I press the start button for more than 4 secs to switch it off, nothing

happens. I am forced to take the battery out, before it switches off.

Event viewer mentions acpiec. Could this have anything to do with the

battery?

Thank you

It has to do with system becoming very unstable. The solution is to

reformat the HD and start all over again but before you do this, please

tell us what is the make and model of your system and how old it is. If

the HD is worn out completely then clearly you will need to buy a new

system as changing the HD of a laptop is not an easy task for a novice.

To switch off a laptop or even some desktops, you need to press the

power switch button and keep it pressed until it is switched off. This

is very normal in Windows XP and subsequent OS.

Hi

It's a 3 year old Toshiba Satellite P100.

The problem is that after going ito a black screen, no matter how long I

kepr the button pressed it did not switch off. Now, I have been using it

for 3 hours, without the battery, and so far all is well.

Could the battery be the problem? My first suspicion was the heating up,

but then it should switch off altogether.

I think the difficulty of replacing hard drives in laptops varies widely; it

is a real pain to do on my 2002 Sony laptop, but is quite simple on my 2005

Compaq. Take a look at this manual:

http://h10032.www1.hp.com/ctg/Manual/c00444840.pdf. See Chapter 5 for

disassembly and reassembly instructions.

Thank you everybody, but my feeling is that this is a hardware problem

What I really need to know is whether acpiec can be related to overheating

or battery problems.

Thank you

And, yes, it does have something to do with the battery and temperature.

Maybe you should contact Toshiba.
