Accessing already downloaded windows xbox app games

I reloaded my Windows 10 and now I can't access the games I had downloaded and saved to my external ssd.What's the trick? That is alot of bandwidth that could be saved as well as hard drive longevity.I updated the Xbox app through the Microsoft Store app and I can now see my games, days after I have been trying to figure this out, but, I would like to know how? I know that some games can't be installed onto external drive but there are none showing as installed and I have that external drive set as the drive for the Xbox storage in its settings.Help I guess. I can always download but seriously
