No Wireless Network Adaptor installed of Configured - HELP!

If ANYONE knows how to fix this, it would be awesome.

I was online the other night, computer is having cooling issues, and got the BSOD, and it stated a crash dump was in progress. I switched it off, as I have done before, and let it sit for about 30 minutes. After switching the computer back on, I noticed that my normally blue WI-FI light on my HP DV6000 which has Windows Vista Home Premium (32bit) installed, was not turning blue, and that the light remained orange. I had the red X through the wireless connection icon, and when I clicked on it, it read : No Wireless Network adaptor installed or configured".

So I AM able to plug an ethernet cable in and connect just fine to the internet. When I go to device manager, the ONLY thing it shows there is the NVIDIA NForce Networking Controller. There is nothing else listed. Curiously though, in the "Other Devices" list there are 3 listings for something called "Base Systems device", 1 for a Co-processor, and 1 for an "unknown device", all with the yellow/blk exclamation in front of them. I did the uninstall on the NVIDIA Networking controller, no luck, I tried to uninstall and reinstall the items under "other devices", but the computer doesn't know what they are and there is no description for them either. I am not sure whether they have anything to do with this, but figured I would mention it.

While HP no longer supports a Laptop this old, I was able to find a thread and download the Broadcom wireless driver at this link:

https://ftp.hp.com/pub/softpaq/sp49501-50000/sp49541.exe

While it was successful in downloading the driver, absolutely nothing happened or changed after I finished, rebooted, turned it on, and disconnected the ethernet cable. Got the same exact message, with the same exact items appearing in device manager.

At this point, I am willing to entertain ANY possible solution. YES I have a installation disc, but am not sure if that would help, or not, as I don't know how to access it without it wanting to completely reinstall everything when I put it in. Having ethernet access is great, so I should be able to download anything that someone posts to help.

OH - and when I do IP Config /all - in the CMD line - there is NO mention of "Wireless" - is it called something else?

Thank you for your help.

Matt
